These interesting little Plovers have the distal 1/3 of the bill deviated to the right. This difficult to illustrate without a head on pose but you can get the impression of it here. Photographed at Miranda, Firth of Thames , New Zealand

Great light, angle, smooth water and reflection. Might also work as a vertical crop.

Very nice photo of an unusual bird. So, do they use that specialized beak for prying into some type of shellfish or maybe to flip objects over to search underneath, or ???

You've done well with a COMP that would probablty have 50 good options... That said I find myself wishing for a bit more room below and in front. Sharp, excellent exposure. later and love and cool bird, artie

/Thanks for the comments, guys. Steve, they use their bent bills for probing under pebbles in the shallows for invertebrates.

Kind of like a sideways Turnstone bill! Wish for more room above and below. Great smooth water, and perfect ripple.

    Really nice capture Tony.
I too would prefer a bit more under the reflection but these guys get so close that often little room .
That said, exposure, sharpness, angle & reflection all spot on.

Very nice Tony, Excellent light & head angle. A beautiful sharp image of a species I wasn't familiar with. Interesting bill on this little guy.

How true, shorebirds can and do approach too close, but next time when out in the field and this happens it would be a perfect moment to think of flipping the camera and take some verticals.:)
