    Canon 7D, EF400/5.6, 1/250, f7.1, ISO400, 43% FF, handheld
    Taken on a recent trip to the San Francisco area.

    Nice bird. I do feel it needs more DOF although would have thought 7.1 would cover it.

    I like it...The detail is good and the OOF flowers on the left balance and add nicely and the smooth BG is outstanding...I would however maybe take a bit off the top and bottom

    Dan:

    I like the basic concept. The strong side lighting gives nice definition to the fluffed feathers, the undulating perch is scaled correctly for the bird, smooth background behind the bird.
    I wonder where you focus point was, as the tail looks sharper than the head and bill.Looking at the perch, the plane of focus in anterior to some of the bird.
    I find the colors on the left a bit too bright as posted, as it tends to draw our eyes away from the more subtle subject.

    Might try a version with another pass of USM on the birds head/bill, and the luminosity of the flowers reduced a bit.
