    Default Hello from Puerto Rico

Just wanted to say hello as I am becoming active here now. Look forward to learning as much as I can and interacting with the membership. I'm fairly new to avian photography, but am learning fast as that is what I have available for subjects here. I live in PR but am from the great state of Va. so I'm not a native here, but have been adopted after thirteen years of living here.
Also, just wanted to add that the owners and the membership should be proud of what's been created here. Living where I do I don't have access to peers that can offer advice or help sort out photo problems. I know several birders here, several professional photographers, but no one that is both. Having a place to come that can help me a achieve another level is a welcome joy for me. Thanks to you all.
Now if I could find a way to pay other than Paypal, I'd become a paying member.
    Fred

Fred, welcome to the BPN community! We're glad to have you here and I'll make sure James sees your comment about not wanting to use Paypal. I don't think there's another option at this point but I'll find out.

Looking forward to seeing your images. Feel free to start in either the Avian forum or the Eager to Learn forum. Both offer outstanding critiques and lots of learning opportunities!

Hola Fred- I am a great fan of Puerto Rico having spent 16 years working on Brown Noddies on Culebra. There must be a tremendous variety of opportunities on the big island for bird photography. Good luck and look forward to seeing some of those amazing species down there.

Ola Fred: Nice to have you on board and look forward to seeing your images. Haven't been to PR since I was a teenager, but absolutely loved it. Was an avid birder back then and spend a lot of time birdwatching!

Thanks Julie, another option would be great as I haven't dealt through Paypal since 06 due to having data compromised.
Yep, I've started in one area, but I'm not certain where to post. I'm not a beginner to photography, but also not an avian expert so I'll see how it goes.

John, working 16 years on Culebra had to be a tough job, yea right, I'm envious. I came here for a two week engineering project and basically never left. The variety of birds that are on the main island is surprising in that one never knows what they will see when venturing out. Or just where you will see something, as you probably know the population density for people is very high here, but even outside of parks or preserves there are pockets that are teeming with birdlife. I have a freshwater lake about two minutes away that I visit almost daily and see something different daily. Normally October is the month for migrants but so far it's been very slow, which may be from the recent storms we've had. In the past I would start seeing Ospreys at the local lake now, but I think the rain and the muddy water are keeping them away. Once the flood water level drops hopefully my close spot will get back to normal.

Marina, PR has changed a lot even in the time span I've been here. Several things remain the same, lots of birds, beautiful scenery, and lots of cars on the roads! Even after thirteen years here, driving is still the ultimate adventure here.

Thanks so much, I've been traveling and then covered up with work. Once I'm caught up I'll make the phone call.

Thanks Artie, I have been under the weather after getting back and haven't called yet. Hopefully tomorrow will see my freedom and life will get back to normal so I'll make the call, and get back to shooting again.

Well I gave a credit card number, so yes. I say it that way as sometimes my bank gets quirky when I purchase outside the norm. But, the bank normally calls when they suspect something and I've had no call.

I will check with Jim in the morning. I am pretty sure that he forwarded it to James Shadle. I will let you know.

I've been out of the loop the past few weeks, but I haven't heard anything yet. The payment does show up on my statement as "Birds As Art". It's not a big deal as I currently don't have time to shoot or be online, but I would like to know how to proceed.
