is not easy to find an animal not sared in Italy. In gran Paradiso N.P. sometimes it happens. I decided suddenly to take the light zoom not the long lenght, and stay handheld, to follow the quick movements of the fox. I stayed very low as learned by many professionals as Fizwilliam.
    Nikon d300 zoom nikon 70-300 at 250 iso 320 f5,6 1/320 EV -0,3 some steps in pp.
    C&C. thanks.

    Hi Valerio,

Good to see you posting here. You did well photographing this red fox. You have photographed him sharply and gotten a nice out of focus frame of foliage around him.

I would suggest cropping some more from the left, this will put the fox's face more out of the center of the image. You could also place the face in a Rule Of Thirds location. I reposted with just such a crop. I also did the following all in Photoshop.

    1) On a background copy I dodged the area right around the eyes that were too dark.
    2) I desaturated magenta and blue using Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to lessen the color cast due to the shade.
    3) Lightened the image using the mid-tone slider with a Levels Adjustment.
    4) Added back lost contrast using a mild s-curve on a Curves Adjustment layer.
    4) Sharpened the image more. The fox is sharp - the image just needed more sharpening.

    Thanks for posting.

I love this image! You have portrayed a beautiful animal in a very nice setting! The OOF foreground elements add to the composition. You also have a nice expression and eyecontact, all making a very nice capture.
I was thinking of some small possible changes, but Robert's excellent repost addresses them all! I'd love to see a little more eye lightening and eye sharpening though.

Thanks for sharing! Would love to see a larger image of this one!

    Valerio,

Nice image. Robert's image presents a very nice composition.

    Robert,

Not sure of your colors. I am on a calibrated monitor and seeing low contrast and washed out reds/yellows.

This is a very interesting image, and I would dearly like to see a repost from the original taking into account the suggestions given. At the moment it does look a little washed out but I am unsure whether a"boost" in colours will strengthen it or not.

    robert and others
since Ken suggested to boost contrast, I tried to readjust the image: not forcing the colors, not exaggerating:In Nikon capture I did a mixture of selective local improvement, a bit of calor, hue-tones, mask sharpness, < brightness on the Bg. Do you agree? Not? Thanks

Sorry, saved only 50% in quality. I've trying to make the same solutions as Robert, but in Nikon Capure NX. I think is an interesting matter. But the boost in colors, calor, hue, saturation isjust a bit. Certainly more sharpness.
    OK?

Colors much better here, except for a magenta cast, and a sort of sploch below his right eye. You can lso check out how a little bit less central placement of the head looks.

Apart from these minor nitpicks, it's an excellent image, and improved more so by the contrast boost!
