Default Grand Prismatic Spring & Dead Tree

Artie & Denise's recent photos from Yellowstone/Tetons reminded me of this one. It's from the summer of 2006. I had my first digital camera (a gift from my wife) and was reminded why I liked photography (which I had given up 30 years before). This is a two-shot pano from a 6 mega-pixel Nikon point & shoot (the metadata says E-5000). I took up photography again with a fascination for multi-shot panos, with images from this camera and even frames from a video camera that I had :D It wasn't long after that I purchased my first dslr. I think now I could probably shoot the right shots to remove the tree in the pano creation ;)...

    Anyway... thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Michael, Looks very familiar! We photographed ours from the very top. I think you have a great idea to do a pano and eliminate the trees. I might try to do a slight curves adjustment and try to get a bit more pop out of this. I like the steam off the back pool. I wish they had spent money making a terrace walk up the side of the mountain that we photographed from instead of a boardwalk around this landmark.

And I am glad that there is no walkway up there. The place would be over-run with tour-ons. And I enjoyed the struggle both up and down. And so did Denise. She even helped me carry some of my gear :o As for the image, I can live with the tree on the side, but....

    Denise, Artie,

Thanks for commenting... In looking over the few shots that I took up there, I remembered that when we were at the spot that was clear of trees the sun was behind the clouds, so what we mostly saw was reflections of the sky in the springs. On the way back down (with the dead tree in the middle) the sun came out and gave us the great color in all its glory. The hike was just about the limit for my then 7 year old daughter & her 6 year old friend.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Nice vantage pont for getting all of this landmark....I love doing pano's and thank god for photomerge, saves us so much time compared to before. I love the colors surrounding the pool, and would probably boost them a bit.
Would love to see how an HDR would look of the front pool.
    I agree with you both..the centre tree..gotta go...TFS

Michael, I love the pano look and the springs are beautiful. I agree with Paul on the (you know -- tree in the middle:p).

Michael, love the concept and this is a nice capture of that very popular area. I'm sure you could do a great job of painting out that "stick in your eye", and by cropping out the tree on the left you could make a much nicer presentation of this one. Thanks for showing this one to us!
