Default Into The Light... ( C ) Cape Griffon Vulture

Went to the St Augustine Alligator Farm two weeks ago. The wading bird natural swamp was dead. Trying to get images of wild birds. Unfortunately, very few birds are here now. Had me down. After getting set up for this shot, a bus load of little kids approached me. Some wanted to use my camera to take a couple shots. I told them it wasn't for rent. Got a laugh out of the adult counselors. Took my photos within about 30 minutes. Had to leave. Too much motion around my set up. Only released the shutter button when there was no movement. Think my beanbag really helped.

Like the light and color here. It's been very cloudy recently. Had to dial up the ISO. Still running tests.

    Enjoy...

Wow, clean image for high ISO. I also shoot the 7D but have never dared go to ISO 2000. It certainly paid off for you. Well done. Perfect exp on bird for my taste.

Good sharp detail Wesley, and I like exposure too. The vulture stands out nicely against the darker BG.

Some people would have packed up even earlier and come home with nothing. You saw an alternative opportunity and took advantage of it. A bit better HA, IMO, would have been great, and perhaps a touch of fill-flash. Well done with the comp, and I love the feathers along the top ridge of the wing. Good details throughout.

    Daniel, Stuart, Dudley & Martin,

Thanks for your kind comments. Daniel I hear you on the touch of fill- flash. Did not get my Better Beamer due to all the visitors walking around me. Does HA stand for higher angle?

HA stands for head angle. Love the light and detail, nice for 2000 ISO, wish for a little better HA too with the eye contact toward the front. Amazing bird.

Hey Charles, Art K. is correct - HA is for head angle. Although technically OK, a bit more towards us would have been super.
