Default October project: Backlit / silhouettes - Black On Blue

Although I created this image last month hopefully it will be accepted for this project. I photographed this Great Blue Heron and Lesser Yellowlegs at Shirley's Bay early one morning. They were in a shadowed area below a dike. I had to boost the contrast a bit and then decided to add blue to the mix.

    Canon 40D, Sigma 50-500mm at 500 mm on Induro Tripod. 1/1250 seconds, F 6.30, ISO - 160

    Interesting composition.

I like the silhouette but the blue seems unrealistic to me as I wouldn't expect this with this type of lighting.

I would likely have removed the small rock in the lower left.

I just love the image design and especially the position of the two shorebirds and even the rock :) I would either cut down or eliminate the blue. B&W might be the best way to go.

Beautiful design. Nice to see the bills on both the Yellowlegs...which is the key I feel in such shots. I am a big fan of such images and agree that this much blue does not look realistic. If you dont mind deviating a bit form reality, it might be a good option to select color temp as white balance and play with the slider.

Nice clean image I like the composition. Nice to see a silhoutte with other than the normal reds and oranges. The blue is unusual though and I like Kaustubh's suggestion.

Thank you Jim. I realised that the blue was unusual but I purposely forced it. Just an experiment.

Thanks Artie. I'm posting a BW version with this reply.

Kaustubh thank you for your comments. I'll probably try your suggestion later on but for now here's a B&W version

Love, love, love the repost and both of the rocks. Now a crop from the bottom from just below the smallest rock and you will be good to frame this one.
