Sweet sharpness, light, and BKGR. I would have taken a bit less off the top and a bit more off the bottom but I wanted to keep your copyright notice. Just bought my X-mas ISP tickets on Southwest. See you at the Snowy Owl. 3X2 works much better for me here than near-SQ.

Thanks, Artie and Denise. I do like your repost, Artie. My struggle was with the background elements that I do like and want to include. I think your idea of more off the bottom and less off the top is perfect. Also solves the problem of that one dark leaf in the lrc. Yes, bring on the owls, keeping our fingers crossed that this is a good year for them to visit LI. The winter of 08/09, the first one was spotted 11/19, so getting close.
I prefer Artie's recrop, but your original was a good starting point. Just enough BG elements to add interest without distracting, but I would tone down the lighter areas of the leaves below. Great pose, and I like that we get a teasing glimpse of this species' name sake:)
I like Artie's crop and really enjoy the background.
I'd be tempted to really blur the extreme UL corner or clone it out.
The bright green foliage in the lower part of the image grabs my eyes and distracts from the subject at first. Might it be possible to burn these in a bit?
