Default Civil War - General Grant

I went to a local Civil War reenactment last Sunday, the Battle of Sayler's Creek. This is General Grant, in fact the same reeanctor that I photographed three years ago here.

I aged the photo using three of my textures and one texture from Shadowhouse Creations, called "Beneath the Surface 1." This is just the first photo that I've processed, there will be many more to come! :)

Christopher, you know that I love these portraits of yours! This gentleman certainly has done a fine job of capturing the essence of the war-weary soldier and your processing is just perfect to my eye. Even as a child I was fascinated by the work of Mathew Brady, who chronicled the Civil War and virtually invented photo-journalism. I love the textures and tones, scratches and blemishes, and the subtle vignette you have used. Wonderful work Christopher!

Hi Christopher, being a civil war buff I have to like this image. You've aged and toned it nicely!!

Christopher, Nice somber look on his face. You did a wonderful job with aging this image. I like the toning as well. This is your forte for sure!:)

Though I never met the general I love this image and could not think of any way to improve it. Actually taking a second look the highlights on his left shoulder look a bit bright or even over....

Christopher you sure do know how to do this type of processing! I might possibly bring up the shadows in the facial area a bit but only if it wouldn't lose the aged look you have there now.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the comments.

Artie, the shoulder highlights were blown out unfortunately, but I did tone them down to make them less bright. It was midday and very sunny, so most of the time I had to deal with less than ideal lighting.

Jules, I had experimented with lightening the face area more, but decided to keep it this way because I felt it best emphasized the textures of his face.
