Wow, have I been beat, and it has only been two days. Loving it though.

Here is an image from this evenings session at Pasagrille Beach, St Petersburg, FL.

Exif is intact and I only have five hours to clean up, sleep, pack up and hit the road for more.

    Full Frame, As shot. D3 600m TC1.4

    Best,
    Jim

The composition works really fine for me Jim, the light is soft and I love that kind of light and the symmetric pose is really good. Fanstatic

Jim, this is excellent. At full frame with a D3 you should be ok making the crop that I've made below. I added an adjustment layer for curves, a bit of levels to brighten things a little more, hue/sat, and a touch of USM. Changing the composition and brightening the image really makes this sing, in my opinon. Great work!

EDIT: Oh, I also got rid of the bubbles in the bottom right. The straight on head angle makes me want the bird's body centered in the frame, while his wings are running along the top third line ;)

I really like the mood and feel of this one, Jim. Blake's repost makes for a nice portrait, but I personally prefer the original crop as it gives the bird more of a sense of place.

Nice image Jim. Love the pose and the light and the details are great.

I like the way the tigher centered crop really focuses on the bird and enlarges the details and crops out the distracting water at the bottom. Might have been different if the bird was lower to the water surface or if the water was calm and still.

I like the comp in the original also. The repost is too square for my taste. The repost reminds me of my Hassleblad days . Also in Jims there appears to be some vignetting going on as the corners are darken I don't know if it was in camera or an added effect

Hi John, the aspect ratio of the crop is 3:2.065, pretty similar to the 3:2 of the original post ;)

Thanks everyone. Moose is real big on not cropping at all, so I'm trying to do things his way this week since I'm on his tour. That doesn't mean that I won't crop it later though.

Spoonbills: Saw two on the way back from a session, but not had any in front of the lens yet.

Vignetting: Came out of the camera that way. Either my towel was hanging in front of the lens hood a little, or the TC caused it, but I haven't noticed it before this image.

It will be interesting switching from Moose to Artie next week all while trying to find my own way. Can't wait!

Hate to post & run, but I've got a lot to do before we hit the road again. . .
