    Hey all,

Just in from Baja  and off to AK tomorrow . Stopping by to say hello

We were very fortunate to meet up with a pair of cooperative wolves in Gibbon Canyon. The female came to within 10 feet. A thrill for all, indeed.

Wow, that is a fabulous/beautiful photo. The last time I saw one I lived in northern Yukon. The only nit is you made me home sick.

Nice simple composition. In regards to the tree, this image would work well either way. My take on it is that it gives a feeling of "depth" to the snow which already looks like its much deeper than the wolf would prefer. I get the feeling that he's getting quite the workout trudging through it.

Very nice image Charles. It shows this animal well in its harsh environment. The green branches of the small pine tree break the white BG nicely and creates a balance, although it would have been better if it were a bit further removed from the wolf's head. With this BG you may even be able to do that in PS if you are comfortable with that sort of digital manipulation.

Very cool Chas. Beautiful looking creature - he looks great against the snow. In a perfect world I would have preferred to see the pine more towards to upper right of the image to balance the wolf. But you get what you get and this an expertly rendered image of the wolf.

    Hey gang,

Thanks for the comments. The image appears as taken. While I am quite competent in CS... I think moving/eliminating trees, bushes, etc. around is past my line in the sand. I think nature is still a derivative of the word natural. Less is often more, but sterility is another issue altogether.

I would hate to think Nature Photo contests are being won in the digital darkroom w/o stating ... elements within the image have been digitally eliminated, moved, altered.

    Respectfully,

    Chas

Exquisite composition, Chas! Glad to see you posting your great work, it's always an inspiration :)

About the removing subjects, I just started a thread about it in Photo Topics.

Major contests still require the RAW file :)

Very cool to see those in the wild! The eyes really make this one for me.

Awesome shot. I think I would have had the camera shaking too much if a wild wolf were only 10' from me.
