Obviously I converted to BW adjusted contrast using the function in PS BW conversion. Curves and masking. Maybe this doesn't belong here, but I can't seem to get the right forum most of the time. Feel free to move it. I would prefer it not go to Friends etc.

What a beautiful scene, Bill. Only suggestion I can think of is to crop a little off the left hand side to eliminate the one bright area in the center.

I think cropping it would affect the balance. I think I could eliminate by the patch tool or clone stamp. I agree it would be a little better with that patch removed.l

Hi Bill, I think this forum is fine for this image and it could have gone in landscapes as well. I really like the overall look to the image. This would have been a good situation for a graduated neutral density and this can also be done in Lightroom if you have access to that. I feel that the brightness of the upper part of the image pulls the eye away from the nice road and trees in the lower part. In fact, I think you could make very nice images from both the top half and bottom half of this image with some cropping. I especially like the light on the trees and the road pulling the eye into its path.

I like the dynamic range you have been able to render here Bill. I agree with Kerry that darkening the upper part would be a good thing to consider. It may be difficult to do this though because you have a vignette effect in the sky. I like the way the road curves and disappears into the image. Too bad about the post in the bottom middle. It would be useful to see the techs for the image.

I agree with the critiques. The image is stronger without the distracting patch of white on the left (removed using patch tool in PS CS3), removing the post in the center at the bottom (combination of patch tool and clone tools), and applying the linear contrast option under curves to just the top part of the image. What do you think?

Dawn, thanks for posting the image with the suggested improvements. I agree with two of the three. The image is certainly improved by removeing the bright spot on the left and the post (didn't even see it). The curves adjustment for the sky must be very subtle because it doesn't show very much on my screen. Of course, this is coming from a man who can't tell much difference between a corked wine and one with a screw top.

Bill, I think you've done a lovely job here. I do agree that the bright patch on the mountain could stand to be toned down just a bit but I really love the overall effect you've achieved here. It almost has an infrared quality to it...very mysterious and ethereal.

In the ETL forum you can post any type of nature-based image that has undergone "normal" post-processing. When you get into the funky filters and what not then it needs to go in OOTB (for nature-based images) or Friends and Family (for any non-nature based images).
