With Denise's help I ran this through Silver Efex and was totally blown away not only by the results but by the incredible number of B&W options and looks available.

Hi Artie - Like it - great feel and the B&W conversion is really nice. I think a even tighter crop (just the water area in the centre) would make a cool abstract.

Not all the NIK plugins are 64 Bit yet (CS5 Compatibility in 64 bit mode) - I like the Define noise reduction plugin also.

Thanks on all counts Lance. I shall try your cropping suggestion and think that it will make an excellent version. Do you do much work in 64-bit? My new laptop has that capability but I have only set up CS-5 in 32 bit (I think) :)

Artie, this is an excellent B&W composition. I love the flow. The depth has come out very well with the b&w conversion. I have to check out the NIK plug-ins! Also, you can install both 32 and 64 bit CS5 at the same time and choose the version depending on the plug-in compatibility. I mostly use 64bit along with Topaz (64bit) and it is really fast. If I have to use Redfield plug-in, I then switch to 32bit version.

Hi Artie - Not currently - still waiting for the rest of the NIK plugins to be 64BIT - then I will use it 100% of the time - does appear to make some difference in area's (Complex actions seem to run faster).

    Nice image and application, Artie.

    Nice blur and action.

I would agree with Lance on an alternative cropping. I also think it could use a little sharpening, even though you want a blur. See attached for one quick crop option with sharpening. As noted, it was a quick run and some adjustment would be needed for the final. But offer it for what it is worth to you.

Thanks Indranil. I will need to learn to do that and learn when and how to switch.

Thanks Lance. Does working in 64-bit affect the final TIFF files???

Thanks Mark. I love your crop.

How about the size of the image files?

Hi Artie - Think of it like this - Photoshop is running in 64bit - so it can address more memory and has performance gains from that ability.
Nothing about your files change in anyway.

Hi Artie - heres a link - its a techie read - but the pictures give a idea - keep in mind though - the 64bit ones have more physical ram.

Artie, I'm a fan of Silver Efex and I like the conversion that you chose. I think the re-posts added a bit to the image. Love the action and range of light!

Thanks a ton Lance. Consider me educated. Can anyone teach me how to switch back and forth from 32-bit to 64-bit?

I have both loaded and labled one version PS-32 the other PS-64, on my desktop. I save the image in either and open in the other program. I don't know if you can open 32 from the 64 program. I have started using PS-32 more, as my CS4 - PS-64 does not allow the use of Fracts. But then again I am learning this stuff as I go also. Appreciate Lance's explanation as I have wondered the same as you Artie.

Hi Artie, as you use BreezeBrowser, you can define 64bit as the primary editor (Ctrl-D) and 32bit as secondary editor (shift-Ctrl-D). Here are the steps -

    1. Install both 32 and 64bit at the time of installing CS5 (there is an option on the installer to install both version) or update if 32 is already installed to add 64 bit (same process as first install)
    2. You will be have both version available on Windows 7 program launch - one as CS5 and other CS5 (64bit).
    3. Update the preference in BB for primary editor to select photoshop.exe under Drive:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe (this is 64 bit)
    4. add Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe (this is 32 bit) for secondary editor

The paths may be slightly different depending on the installation preference. Also, you will need to close CS5 for switching between 32 and 64bit. Otherwise the image will load on the current version whichever is open.

Agree that an alternate cropping is needed..but all I'd crop, is the black at bottom..

In the original the gold on the bottom really adds to the image....but in B & W it just turns black, so I'd crop just the bottom ..Hope you know what I mean...**** I hope I do..;)
