Today I learned one thing, always keep my camera with me. We were out bird watching and because it was intermittent drizzling rain. I did not take my camera with me. Of course, and not an area came and circled around the heads about 8 feet for about 5 min. What wonderful pictures I could've taken. However, at the entrance to the Cumberland farm fields there is this stone, honoring Capt. William S McFarlin, who served in the Civil War. Here is some information from the history of Carver about the Capt.
    CARVER VOLUNTEERS:
Under the ante rebellion State militia Co K 3d Regiment was known as the Carver company William S McFarlin captain. When Pres Lincoln's first call reached him, Capt McFarlin gathered as many of his soldiers as possible in the time given and started for the front.
Those who answered this summons and who are now designated as The Minute Men of 61 were:
Capt William S McFarlin ,1st Lieut John Dunham, 2d Sergeant Hiram 0 Tillson, 3d Sergeant Robert P Morse, 3d Sergeant rank Henry White, Hiram B Tillson, James H Stringer, Isaac B Vail, George E Bates, Josiah W Coggeshall, Joseph F Bent, John M Cobb, John D Sanborn, George H Shaw, Jonathan W Shaw, Linns A Shaw, Joseph F Stringer.

Co C 18th Beg MVM Mustered into service between Nov 2 and Dec 16 1861 for three years
Capt William S McFarlin Resigned on account of disability Oct 19 1862

Taken with Nikon D3S, 300 mm F4 lens, 1/250, F11, iso 1280. Just some levels adjustment in Photoshop

    Hi Myer,

Nice piece of history. Thanks for sharing it. I do agree with Dave that F&F is the appropriate forum and have moved it there.
