40D. 400 f/5.6L wide-open to get the circular highlights. I took some by stopping down but did not like the octagons.
I had posted this one in OOTB earlier...re-posting as it fits in with current project.
This was a little more tricky and time-consuming than I thought it would be. As the breeze went up, ripples increased creating lot of circles. But when the breeze died down, the circles reduced. I had to maintain straight line with myself, Swan and the highlights. So timing the breeze with the head angle was the key.
Interesting challenge as described. I like the rim lighting on the bird, placement in frame. The silhouette is clearly recognizable as a mute swan because of the knob at base of bill.
Kaustubh: It sounds as though you worked hard for the capture, and it has certainly paid off. I love the artistic feel and the highlights really work with the silhouette. Well seen and captured.
I like the Blasting Highlights type images. Two things but me here: 1: the head is slightly turned away 2: the lit (and overexposed) top of the head. Getting lower might have helped with #2.
