    Default Ruaha Lion Cub 1

We were quite lucky in Ruaha Game Reserve, and had two sightings of Lions with cubs.

The second was best as it was relatively open and after persuading our driver that head on shots may be better that the opposite we managed to get a few nice ones:)

Taken in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania 8th September, 2010

    EOS 1D MkIV

500mm F4 IS hand-held from open game viewing vehicle.

    F6.3, ISO 800, 1/5000

I should really have got lower but the vehicle had relatively little room to manouver in.

    Ken,
Nice pose. A lower perspective would have been nice. However, in this image you can see the shoulder accentuating the stalking pose. Why 1/5000 shutter speed? Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

    Sabyasachi,

I have no excuses to offer for not lowering the ISO.

Quite a lean looking cub, at least from what I can see. Nice expression on its' face. You seem to have the colour repro under good control now as this looks pretty accurate to my eye.

Ken - understand about the want for a lower perspective but the inability to get one due to the vehicle. I like the mid-stride pose.

The lion is always an amazing animal to photograph. I really like the intensity of the look on the face and the sharpness. Any lower in perspective and you would have been lion food :o!

    Ken,

My first thought is like Morkel's, more room in front. The image works well.

Thanks for all of the comments.

I am afraid there is little or no more room at the bottom, this is vertical crop from portrait.

    Hilary,

They all looked remarkably skinny, they apperntly got a Zebra later in the day.
