    Default Diving Ring-billed Gull

While walking a local shoreline in the eastend of the city I encountered some Ring- billed Gulls feeding very actively for some freshwater mussels in the waters of the Ottawa River. This one particular individual kept diving repeatedly over and over again trying to get deeper to reach a mussel. It never got in the air more than 2-3 feet before the next dive (this explains the already present water ripples under the gull). I knew I could get some cool photographs so I got down low and snapped away. Always nice to get a very common species in a different way, and I think I succeeded here with what I think is a unique shot of this often overlooked species.:D

    Daniel,

This is a fantastic shot, and the timing is about as perfect as you could ask for! My only suggestion is to remove just a portion from the top of the frame to put the gull a little higher in the frame. Otherwise, I love the depth of field here, and your exposure and angle of light is dead on.

Wow, pretty impressive shot Dan. Such an unusual view it almost looks odd to me but a real keeper for sure.

Interesting. I think cropping the top would crowd it. I'd be more likely to stretch the canvas from the bottom to add more room and visually move the tern up in the photo.

Great moment captured! I really like the blue water setting and the wing spread of the gull. Next you can probably try a side profile diving shot?:)
