I usually can only get down to the Riperian Preserve in the early mornings. I had a chance to spend a few minutes there this evening just before sunset.

Hi Ian - So so close....... Lots to like here and love the action.
Love the light coming thru the wings and the running pose.
A little tight in the frame and would have been just about perfect - if the beak and head had a little more separation from the wings and the beak didn't start to merge into the dark area's of the BG.

    Doing well!!!!

    GRRRRR!

I went back and looked and I have a very little real estate available behind the bird, but no additional up front :( . I tried lightening up the beak a bit, but can't do anything about the separation from his wing. Thanks for the tips, guys!

Lance made all the points. Love the position of the wings and the 'golden slippers'. Lovely light. Just a split-second might have made the difference in separating the head.

Thanks, Bill. Unfortunately my image a split second apart hides the bill entirely leaving the eyes above the wing. I have more real estate in front of the bird on that one, though. I'd put it here, but not sure I'm supposed to do that.

Lance is right...soooooo close! I still like it as is. I'd clean up the few white spots on the surface of the water. Even with the bill covered by the wing I'd still be proud that this was mine.

I love the light through the wings and the sharpness of focus on the eye. Lance et al are right about it being so close with the beak not quite separating enough from the wing and blending into the dark BG. Still would love to add this to my shots of Snowey egrets "walking" on water :D
