This was captured in August 2010 in the Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.

I love using telephoto compression in scenes like this.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 250mm
    f8.0 @ 1/1000 SS @ ISO-400

Very nice shot -- I like the placement of the elephant in the frame. I thought I might like it better with the sky cropped off but thought better of it. :)

I thought I was going to agree with Mike's first impulse...crop out the sky. However, I tried it and prefer it better as presented. My brain wasn't ready for your perspective here, but I like it the more I look at it.

    Morkel,

I have never been to Addo, and did not know it had this sort of open space.

This is avery effective image, I have no problem with the sky or anything else for that matter.

Composition wise I am fine with the sky. I feel tweaking the white balance to lower the colour temperature will work even better. How big is this national park? Thanks for sharing.

thanks for the kind comments everyone...

Ken - there is a mix of dense bush and open plains in Addo.

    Morkel,

Well composed and the sky is perfect. Having the different colors and textures adds depth to the image by layering.
