I wanted to capture the gull landings and take offs, but unfortunately they were all facing away from me (no winds to speak of). So I settled for a bird twisting itself in a preening pose where I could catch an eye and get a nice bg. Shot on Biscayne Bay, from the canoe.

    Hi Connie:

This is a difficult capture to critique. I have looked at it several times before taking a stab at it.

Your BG is absolutely gorgeous, and your subject works well against it. I like the preening behavior and you have a nice catchlight. There are two things here that don't quite work for me. One is the crop and the other is that the bird, esp it's head, just doesn't appear sharp or lacks details.

    Thank you for sharing.
