Often we keep looking through our view finders hoping for a landing/takeoff and the instance we take our eye off the view finder action happens. Here is a small trick I picked up from someone. I metered off of another spoonbill standing on a different branch against the sky and manually locked the settings. Increased ISO high enough to get high shutter speed and low aperture for DOF. Also, camera set to shoot in continuous high speed mode. Changed into manual focusing and focused on the stump on which I was expecting the spoonbill to land. Connected my cable release took a couple of test shots to check focus. I clicked my remote shutter release as soon as the spoonbill approached the perch for landing. Here is one out of the sequence.
Sid,
Thank you for more than this picture, all's wonderful! I just seconds ago took the plunge and became a "member". Hoping to post my first image. But in the meantime, I dream about a roseate spoonbill and getting a gooood image of one, like yours above! So thanks for the formula you shared, because I will be standing at Gatorland this winter executing the "plan!" What beautiful feathers, detail, hues...
