Default Sandhill Crane Silhouette au Naturel

This SHC was photographed against the reflection of a gorgeous sunset two years ago in a pond. It was an amazing site to see and a privilege to capture. Would have liked for a better reflection of the beak, but my PP skills couldn't improve it, so I left it as captured.

    Canon 40D, Canon 400 DO
    F5.6, 1/160sec, ISO 400, manual mode
    Gitzo tripod, Mongoose head

    C & C always welcomed and appreciated,

    Marina

Very nice capture. Perhaps a little more canvas (or less cropping, if any was done) at the bottom would help the reflection. I can tell already that this month's silhouette contest is going to be a good one. Cheers.

Beautiful shot. The water is as good as it gets - the sky slightly less. I would take a tiny bit off the top and add canvas if possible to the bottom.

Hey Marina, your choice of BG colours puts the SHC silhouette over the top. I like the inclusion of the ripples, and agree, a little more roome at the bottom will work well. Good use of space on the right. An opportunity well used.

Wow, look at those beautiful deep colours! I'm OK with the reflected bill as this just implies water movement down there too. I do agree with more room below. Looks like you were practicing verticals back then too:)

Great job! I love the silhouetted effect of the lighting. Rich colors and fantastic texture on the water too!

Nice mood, nice deep colors . . . I like the way the water merges into the sky.

    Hi Marina,

Nice silhouette. I agree with the others on adding a little canvas to the bottom. The beak in the silhouette I think is fine - it is natural and a result of water movement.

Incredibly beautiful Marina, I love the colors and reflection. Don't worry if it ain't perfect. The comp is superb. I am just drooling in rainy Sydney.:)

This is stunning. The colours make it. Agree with the others on the crop if you have the space on the bottom - Excellent!!

This is a very striking image, Marina. The ripples are captivating. The pose presented by the bird is perfect for a silhouette. I find the few clouds in the sky to be a bit distracting. I wonder how it would look if they were smoothed out bit.

Very special shot. You could add canvas at the bottom without too much trouble. It'd be tough to add canvas elsewhere, because you'd have to replicate the ripples. Of course I'd like a mirror image in the water, but nature rarely works that way.

Marina, a beautiful photograph--the subtle colors really make this a compelling image for me.

Stunning gradation of colors and a nice job of framing.
