    I cropped the head of this bird and tried to get a clean bg using quick mask and the clone tool. I somehow saved it too small (got that worked out now), but i think it worked out ok.

    30 D, 300 f4 w/1.4 TC
    1/50 @ 5.6

    HI Bruce Some of the areas look a little funny? If you use the clone tool with a subject like this Select the bird with the magic wand to protect It should be a very easy selection The green bg looks really good

    Unless you had the camera on a solid tripod shooting at 1/50 won't get you many prices It is tough producing sharp image at that shutter speed You did well with the head but the bill tip is not sharp Could be movement or the slight off head angle

    I like what you are trying to do to produce clean images Can't wait for the next one !!!

    Hi Alfred - thanks for your input - so many things to learn. I understand how to select the bird, but exactly how do I protect him while I work on bg with clone tool?
