    Default Morning Stroll

Taken in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa on the morning game drive.

    Canon 50D
    100-400 @ 400mm
    1/800
    f10
    ISO 400
HH from the safari vehicle which unfortunately meant I could not get a lower perspective.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel:

Wow. This cat must have been pretty close for you to photograph him at 400 mm. I like what you did with the vertical and keeping the bush on the left. IT's too bad you couldn't get down a tad lower but this works. I like the fact that you can see just a tad of his tail.

    Hi Rachel,

Nice shot of a beautiful animal! I agree with Marina that it is too bad you were unable to get a lower perspective, but nonetheless it is a lovely shot.

Thanks Myer. I definitely had more luck with leopards in the Sabi Sands and Timbavati Game Reserves in South Africa than on my other trips to Africa.

Hi Rachel, a very nice looking leopard, looks in peak condition.

Sadly as already mentioned, the POV isn't great and for me, it's too central without being there it is difficult to suggest what to do, also you probably had others within the vehicle? Perhaps moving further back, or positioning the vehicle in another location where it was in a dip might have improved your chances. The leopard looks nice, clean and sharp, but the reds looks quite strong overall in the image. Might suggest duplicating the image on a new layer, dropping the red & yellow channels in Saturation to reduce the overall warmth or just Hue or sat then paint the leopard back in using a mask. Just a thought.

Thanks Steve. Yes, there were others in the vehicle and the leopard was very active on the move. He came out of the bushes and towards us. The area around was very flat so no way to get the vehicle lower. I was in the lowest seat so no way for me to get lower. I realize he's very central, I shot this as a vertical and it is FF. I wanted to give him room to walk into the bottom of the frame. Maybe I should take a little from the top and rhs? I don't want to lose the bush on the left. I'll take a look at the reds and yellows.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel no issue with the space and know your predicament ;) Colour balance was the best route I found

Something like this perhaps? Check you mail.
