Default Fuzzy & Too Cute Sibling Great Egrets

I spent a lot of time working on my vertical captures this year which is something I was not used to. I think it proved worthwhile, since it forced me to better examine my subjects and how best to capture them. This is an example of a vertical that really works for me, and I would be happy to hear other opinions as well.

Nothing removed or worked on here. Just normal PP and slight crop.

    Thank you,

    Marina

    Marina:

Talk about a subject that screams out for a vertical comp! Really cute, what a scraggly looking pair.
The streak on the throat and yellow eyes really help to pull in the colors of the environment.
I might be tempted to tone down the leaves in front of the bird on the right, since they are just bright enough to pull my attention, unlike the darker leaves on the left.

Yes, moderately contrasty on my monitor, but not objectionable to me.

    Cheers

    Randy

Even the thumbnail made me smile, quite the pair. Well captured, Marina, great use of dof to get the important stuff sharp. I think that the heavy contrast works well here and actually makes the subjects pop right out at me.

What a great pair! I think the yellowish-greens of the broad leaves in the background work wonderfully with the eyes and beaks.

    Hi Marina,

This is a very cute picture. Well framed, nice sharpness. I agree with Randy to tone down the foreground leaves a bit.

The leaves in LRC Randy mentioned are my only issue with this wonderful image. I really love the BG, well done Marina! At first it may not come easy in thinking of vertical compositions in-camera, but after a while it becomes second nature to see when to do so.

This is an amazing image! What I would give to see these little guys. I see a large number of herons and egrets, but never the youngins. The vertical frame works perfectly.

You chose some nice subjects for this shot. The separation of the birds from the background really makes this image work--very few distracting elements overall except the foliage at bottom right as other have mentioned. Nice job.

Love the look on both chicks faces, you clicked at just the right moment. They look like"Hey Lady M what are you up to!"
Wonderful comp and I like the colors as is.
    Thanks for sharing
