No camera gear right now...sold my D300, and waiting for my D700 ;). So went back through some of my old files.
On a trip to Iceland last June, I was lucky enough to get up close on this little bird (7.5 in./ 35 gr.).
There were three males, fighting over a female which gave me a chance to get close. Remove a few distracting grasses.
Oh Oh head angle police lurking...:D
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Paul. I like this for the HA, and sharpness on this male Red-necked. I do wish that the reflection didn't come so close to the bottom edge of the frame. Good luck with the new camera!

Paul, I like the curved outline of the bird from the back of the head to the tail. Good colours and detail, and as you dont have a full reflection, I would maybe crop off at least half of the bottom.

Paul I like the composition, colours and head angle here.

There are what appear to be two faint blade of submerged plants the are jsut above the head. I might be tempted to clone them out.

Good luck with the new camera. You'll have to tell me about your Iceland trip sometime.

A new camera - how exciting!!
HA looks fine to me - I might be tempted to crop some off the top to make more of a pano. Love the sharpness and details. I wonder whether a slightly lower angle would have been possible?

    Paul,

Nice looking bird and I think the HA looks good. If you haven't already, I would try and save the whites when you process the RAW, they are a bit hot in a few places. While the bird looks nice, I don't care for the submerged plants, as I find them distracting.

And what, no camera?!?! I'm not sure who is worse, you or me ;) . I have everything here, but no time to go out and make images.

Thank you all for the ideas and comments, will look into making some changes...Nickki these birds are so tiny..even though I was sitting in the grass, it looks like high angle...lying in the marsh grass, nope ...lolol.. :D

Ha Ha ...I never said I didn't have a camera but when you shoot a film camera, your image rate goes way down...
