Default Project: ST Flycatcher in Habitat

I hesitated before posting this image from 20 years ago, but what the heck. Its a so-so scan of a K64 slide, taken with a Minolta X-570 and 300mm f4.5 Rokkor lens (I guess you had to be there). Yes, BPN comrads, the technicals are not up to the high standards set here. In spite of its flaws this has always been a favorite of mine because of the story it tells about what life might be like as a scissor-tailed flycatcher in Rockport, TX. Flail away :)

I quite like this! Can see it's a scan but that doesn't bother me - I love giving animals and birds the space they need in a photo...gorgeous colours, although the light seems a bit harsh

you might do well to apply some noise reduction to the background...

I can see why you like this one. The 4 layers of colors works as does the placement of the bird. Agree wth Morkel that some NR would much improve this photograph.

I also support the NR comment. Nice comp though and the colors look nice in that layered fashion. :)

I learned photography with the same body as you mention! I'm liking this image alot...very much in the spirit of the habitat themed project. I love the feel of it and it clearly shows where this guy lives. Well composed, and lovely colours throughout (and I love the layers of those colours as Marina mentions). NR noted, and if you are into that type of tweaking I'd look into replacing the large white flower at base of tree with some cloned-in yellow ones (as is my eye wanders to that flower).

As did I. The X-570 was a nice light body with a good lineup of well-regarded lenses, and at much less cost than Nikon gear. All was lost to a burglary in the mid-90's which truly angered me at the time. In retrospect, that roughly coincided with the conversion to digital and autofocus. I got good use of a manual camera system, collected insurance, waited a number of years, then rebuilt with a higher-end system (and invested in a safe). Not such a bad deal, all things considered.
