Sometimes life as wildlife photographer... can be a feast or a famine... for ten hours no action, then within a space of twenty mins ,I observed a pride of lions devour a springbok. And watched a confrontation between an elephant and black rhino... this was the black rhino after a long soak in the mudbath...

cracker! love the light, the mud-caked rhino and the open terrain...might have preferred a tad more space on the RHS but would smile about this every day of the week

This is one happy looking rhino. Love the mud tide mark on him. What a day you must have had. :)

Peter- Sounds like a fantastic 20 minutes:D. I too like the sweet light and the texture of the mud on the rhino. The square crop works well for this.

I certainly could not disagree with that statement, but this is why it is such fun:D

Stupendous image, the mud and its colour add tremendousy to the quality and detail of this image, I agree with Morkel about more space on RHS.

Hi Peter, really strong rhino shot for me. I really liked the texture on top of the rhino's head, and shoulders. Good DOF with nice BG. Also liked the ear position and the gold light highlights between legs. You made the side lighting work for you here. Do you have a shot with more of the rhinos left legs showing, ie left foot forward. Again, wish I had a rhino shot half this good.
    cheers

Hi Peter, would echo Grants comments, are you sure you are not making plaster cast models of these animals and photographing them in gorgeous light, LOL. Yes, a real cracker, but personally not a great lover of the crop/ format.
