The Jacana (or Lotus bird) walks across water on on the surface of lily pads and for this reason is often known as the Jesus bird ;)
I followed this one around a billabong for ages as it barely stopped still. I had the 400mm with x2 TC mounted on a monopod and fired a shot off every now and again - this was about the best I could manage.
Canon 10D , 100-400 with x2 TC, Natural light, ISO 100, 1/180 F11, Monopod.

Nice bird, I have never seen these before, only the African Jacana. The light was a bit harsh here, but I like the pose and angle of the image and the fact that you can see its feet under water on the lily pads.
Harsh light mentioned. Beautiful bird, and I like the large feet being visible through the water. Appears slightly soft in the face area that another selective round of USM should fix :-)
The lighting has been mentioned and ditto the above comments but I like the pose and particularly like the eye contact in this image. A first for me too. Thanks for sharing John.
