This guy suprised the heck out of me when he came out of a pond thru some reeds just about 10 feet from me.
I hurriedly set up my tripod and took a few shots before he saw me and went back into the pond. Don't know who was more scared him or me. Head angle not the best but I wasn't about to try and move around to get better angle. He was about 7-8 feet long. Data ISO 400, 500mm,0ev,f/6.3,1/1000
Nice Gator portrait, I agree with you about the HA. Looks like you did well with exposure in fairly harsh light. I would be tempted to crop some off the right to eliminate the front shoulder and add some to the left to get the eye out of the center of the frame. Also you might selectively work on the eye to brighten and sharpen it a little.
Hi John - good suggestions by Joel - not the kind of subject you are going to work to get a better HA.
I would selectively sharpen the gator with a bit more added to the eye.
keep em cming :)
Yeah, I don't think I'd be begging him for a better HA either! I love what you have here...really nice exposure for what does appear to be harsh direct sunlight. I like the idea of cropping out that shoulder a bit since it's so dark anyway. Try selectively lassoing the eye and do a contrast adjustment - should give that eye a nice pop.
I can't get over how great his teeth look. I wonder what toothpaste brand he uses? :D
