Went out birding yesterday after several months of inaction.
The light angle is not great, but I liked the calm water and the background here.
    Canon 50D, 300 f2.8 IS x Canon 2x teleconverter
    600mm, 1/1250, f7.1, iso 400. Full frame.
The reflection isn't any good, wish I had gone with a horizonal orientation to get more space on the left instead.

    Critiques appreciated.

Sidharth- I love the BG and I think the reflection is strong enough to be an important element of the image. Your lighting angle seems just off to one side of ideal. For my personal taste I would like to see less room at the top and more room to the left.

nice detail in the feathers, sharp and exposure looks good, sweet gray background. Agree with John, it would be an easy task to create a little more canvas to the left. Nice shot.

The light was coming from the left, but its head was turned just enough to get the light. I would like to see a lot more on the left. Was this a vertical shot? If not do you have you canvas that was cropped that you could add back?

    Great color, sharp shot.

These birds almost never lend themselves to the vertical format unless they are actually facing you straight on. The reflection is beautiful and I don't mind the lighting at all...just the orientation:(

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it very much.
I do agree a horizontal would work better. In fact I have some horizontal frames, although the reflection was worse in them.
My PS skills are limited, but I'm sure I will find something in the educational resources forum on extending the canvas.

I agree wit all the above. I would deftly would extend that canvas on the left, and decrease that canvas on the top

That's a great tip. Thanks. I do have some frames with him facing me straight on. Will give it a try.

Beautiful bird I like the color palette and the nice reflection I do agree with John on needing more space in front.
