Hi Maureen - lots to like here - exposure looks good, GOOD HA and eye contact.
Techs look solid. Composition looks good with the eye placed near a ROT.
Looks a tad soft - some additional sharpening will help - I sharpened the bird selectively and sharpened in Genuine Fractals (PS. Plugin) a little more than you would want to do - but left that way so you can see the difference.
Always sharpen on a separate layer that way you can adjust it later if needed.
Keep em coming.
Agree with Lance on the techs, the repost is an improvement, I might even take it further by evicting the light colored band that starts in the left upper corner and angles toward the bird's neck. Also I would clone out what appears to be poo under the bird.

PS Lance....how could you explain how you use Genuine Fractals.....do you up size, sharpen and then downsize?
Lance, I am always hesitant to sharpen very much because I really don't like it when images are over-sharpened. Your repost looks much better than the original, though. I guess I'll have to practice judicious sharpening.
Joel, good thought about the colored band and the "poo" - glad you pointed that out :o
Very nice composition, Maureen. I really like the angled slope on a diagonal and the position of the bird's head/eye in the frame.
I know what you mean about being afraid to oversharpen but you don't want to undersharpen, either. Sometimes this means sharpening selective areas of the bird or image or sharpening to the "crisp point" and then backing down so you can see just where to stop.
Lance, did you add a contrast boost at all? I'm wondering because the bird's eye has so much more "pop" to it now. Did you do that with sharpening alone?
