Shot earlier in May in the backyard. 50D, 500mm, iso 640, 1/250, f/8, fill flash. NR on background and cleaned up an ugly branch. Thanks you for looking and all comments appreciated! Gary.

As presented, exposure, sharpness look good. May prefer to have a little bit more room on the right.

I'm not an expert about head angle but this one seems to be perfect! lovely bird, what a great combination black and yellow makes! Killer BG and light. I believe the primaries are over sharpened.

I think it's a great pose - though a bit tight on top - and great exposure, especially with the flash light. I do agree though that it looks oversharpened - most obvious in the primaries but also just a bit too much pop against the nice background. Hope that helps. JR

Beautiful Gary excellent details I think I'd like this better if you had more room all around.

Good comments above. I would be tempted to open up the darks on this one; they're a little too black on my monitor.

Gary, I agree w/ Doug regarding the darks. I also think it's a tiny bit tight in the frame. Very nice sharp details and pose!

Thank you for all the comments. Went back to the original. Removed ugly branches, patched up background, NR and a little blur on background, left a little more room all around, sharpened but as much and did a curves adjustment to bring out more of dark detail. I hope this looks a little better. Once again thank you for all the advice:D

    Gary:

A very colorful guy! I agree with most comments above, about the sharpening, blacks and framing. The repost is a nice improvement, as it got rid of the 'jaggies' that were showing on the primaries, and gave him a little more room to breath.
I think the blacks are better too. I might pull in the black slider a couple points, just a bit more 'black' if you will, but closer to repost than original in regards to blacks.

    Cheers

    Randy

The repost is a big improvement! I agree with Randy that you've got room to go slightly darker with the blacks this time around. Are you starting to feel like a yo-yo??? :p

Oh yes the repost is much better. Great pose by this guy. Good perch and the BG is very nice too.
