    This was taken in early evening, just outside of Trinity, Newfoundland a few weeks ago. I know already the branches are a problem. Would very much appreciate all suggestions. Thank you!

    Melissa, I think the WB may be a bit off here...seem a bit cold overall...
    maybe try warming up a bit?

    I hope this help. I spent a few mins, cloning the BG, did the white and black points and adjust the contrast and brightness...it was a quick job...I think this shot is worth the time to touch up...
    Here it is, hope you don't mind.

    Bird is sharp and interesting but the background is too splotchy for my tastes

    I love the BKGR. You need to try warming up only the bird as the BKGR keeps getting yellower and yellower.... Back to the image. A nice basic COMP that could use a bit more below. The tree could use a few less scraggly branches :) The head turn is just a tad short of perfect.

    With the Bg in sun and the bird in shade you will get different white balances. Select the Bg and either cool it, or select the bird and perch and warm it. It's a great shot.
