    Not that I usually "toot my own horn" but I loved this image from the minute I saw it developing in the viewfinder. While I thought the two dowitchers looked a tad different it wasn't till later that I suspected one was a short billed and the other a long billed juvenile as later confirmed by some shore bird guru's.

    I received a Photographic Society of America Best of the Best award for it at my club meeting this week :)

    Great shot. I like the smoothness of the water a lot. Yes, feet are overrated. :D

    Way to go Jim. A truly lovely image, and what a coup to get both species in one frame. I love the layout and painterly look to the image. You've have indeed proved you don't need the feet but you have framed the image so the "virtual" feet are there, which is important.

    I apologize for not having been back to thanks for looking and commenting....I've been plagued with a bad monitor and fortunately today the new one arrived and it doesn't even give me headaches :)

    Image Specifics:

    Capture Date 9/13/09

    Nikon D300S, 500VR, TC14EII

    ISO 500, Flat custom tone curve (all parameters 0 except for sharpening which was set to NONE), F13, (Needed to have them both in focus) 1/320, CW metering, near UniWB preset, +1.7 EV compensation applied.
