I think the new Nikon's replacements for D300 (except D3x) and up would be 16mega-pixels, full HD video, and the AF system would have something that this D7000 has plus something more.

I wish Nikon would come out with a full sensor replacement for the D700. I am not looking for more MPs but would like a full FX camera with 1080p video.

    Reza:

I doubt that Nikon will produce the camera that you want. Any new cameras must be useful to as many users as possible, or they won't sell.

One major problem with the D700 is that if a DX lens is attached, only 5.1MP are available for that lens. There must be more total pixels to correct this problem.

But I really wonder whether Nikon will produce the camera that you want at a reasonable price, since it might harm D3S/D3X sales.

I was going to wait for the D300 replacement to come out D400 or whatever it will be. But my D300 started having AF issues. So I preordered a D7000 from my local shop. I received it on 10/19 and I am really pleased with it. I am having to get acquainted with the button layout. I could run my D300 in the dark but the D90/D7000 layout it a bit different philosophy.
The AF on D7000 as far as I can tell so far is just as good as D300 just fewer points. I do like that it does not slow down the FPS when going to 14 bit RAW. Quiet Mode, Live view/video switch is real nice. Focus point lock lever is a plus. I do not like the rotary switch for different modes have already knock it out a few times wile shooting and missed some great shots because of it. The memory card door is easy to open on accident when removing from case.
It is a great camera takes really nice captures I will get used to its little quirks. I will probably still get the D400 when it comes out. This better than my D300 so Iwould amagine the D300 replacement should be outstanding.
