    Default Leopard Gaze

I was inspired by Grant's recent leopard posts to review some of my leopard shots. Certainly not in the same league as his and something hopefully a little different. Taken in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa.

    100-400 @ 400mm
    1/400

    C&C welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks,

Rachel, I like this. Nice sharp face with good oof background. Love the hint of tongue and simple composition which accentuates the leopard's gaze. As said in a different thread, always nice to see the non predictable views of the wildlife.

Hi Rachel, I guess for me, having had to take some time away from here as worked, your PP & thought process has really come on.

I am glad to see you have achieved the BG though your photography and not via PS which is excellent. The colour looks spot on, however I think you could (if you wanted) get more detail out of the mouth area. Is this FF, or cropped? Personally I would like to see more room below and perhaps a bit more of the Leopard.

Hi Rachel, l liked this shot. Looks like a big, powerful male leopard by the shape of his head, and a mature one too, by the looks of his grizzled ears. I enjoyed the forward facing whiskers high on his head, and the liquid look of his eyes. Not sure what your crop was but a bit more of his neck and shoulder would accentuate the power and strength of this guy, they usually have very muscular shoulders. Nice BG, and you took the image when there were no shadows on his eyes.
    Well done

Nice work thinking out of the box on the composition. I too feel like Steve and Grant when I looked at your image. More room below and more of the leopard.

Thanks all. This is FF, no crop. I have a few with a little more of the leopard but preferred this shot. I'll go back and give the others another look.

Steve - I had a very patient and good teacher, even if he did disappear for a month :):). When are we going to start seeing some bear photos from you? Hope it was a fruitful trip.

    Thanks.

Hi Rachel, at present I am having to clear a few more 'pressing' personal commitments and sadly the 'bears' have to take a back seat. I might post one that, not ideal, but quickly did on flight!!!!

In addition, I need to be sparing, as some I need to keep back, as Austin and I are on certain photographic circuits and i need to keep my powder dry so to speak as he collects awards in Digital & I do in Wildlife 'Print'. :D:D:D

Although I am away again until end of next week if you need anything PM me.

Very pleased to see your photography is progressing so well.

    All the best

Thanks Andrew. To me the amazing part of the Timbavati and Sabi Sands is how habituated the leopards are to the vehicles and how you can spend more than a fleeting moment with them. It allowed me to experiment with some of my shots.
