Earlier this year I had been using an old copy of Photoshop CS2 and with the purchase of a new computer (with a 64-bit operating system) I had been planning to go to CS5. On the recommendation of a friend I got a subscription to NAPP ,which in turn entitled me to a 15% discount on the purchase of CS5. The savings on the software license are about the same as your subscription cost, so if you were making the purchase anyway, you basically got the subscription for free - hard to argue the logic there.
NAPP has a massive library of very well done videos on how do any number of things in Photoshop. There is a great 20(ish) part introduction to Photoshop series that takes several hours to go through and there are individual videos for anything you might want to do. Most of the videos feature the screen itself most of the time and allow you to follow along in Photoshop (I run two monitors and find it very easy). I personally found the whole introductory series very useful (even though I had been dabbling in Photoshop for some time) and learned many things (which I am sure many Photoshop users would consider "fundamental basics") that I did not know. If you already own the software, you'll have to decide whether you think the subscription is worth the price - if you haven't pulled the trigger yet, it is definitely worth considering.
Thanks guys. I too bought a 64-bit computer after getting tired of looking at the hour class. I think Master Artie finally convinced me to move to Photoshop. I had downloaded the trial version already a while ago but didn't have time to play with it (so far I have only done minor post processing with either Canon's own DDP or Gimp). I'm a part time MBA student so I was thinking taking advantage of that and buy the student version.
