    Default Seagull #2

I would comment on others if I had the credentials to do so. Don't mean to always take.

My self critique of this image:
I don't like the "droopy eye"
Slight wing blur at the tips
Maybe a little more room between the top wing and the border?

Olympus E-3 with OM350mm manually focused

Edit: Gave back with a membership. Least I can do.

    Hi Ned,

I agree with your self-critiques, but the slight blur of the wingtips isn't really noticeable and doesn't bother me. I like the blurred bg. It's well focused for a manual focus. I too feel poorly qualified to critique others' images, but I try hard to follow Artie's guidelines, and comment more than I post if possible.

Hi Ned - why are you manually focussing?? Nothing wrong with doing it - but making life hard for yourself unless the lens is a MF only!!
Agree with your self critique - a little tight top and bottom for my tastes - Like the BG!
Dont forget to post your full shooting info - will help us help you.
Going to have to get that SS up to about 1/2500th to freeze those wings.
    Keep em coming :0

Ned, Love the light and BG. I would try a different crop, move the gull over more the the RHS giving some more empty space for it to "fly into" on the RHS - if you have the space.

That is a beautiful BG if I do say so...lovely colors to compliment the neutral tones of the bird.

I also don't mind the wing blur but would work at trying to reduce the harsh shadow on the back wing a bit. Try pulling the high tones down on the bright area and the middle tones up on the back wing and see if you can't cut that shadow down a bit.

Agree with your "droopy eye" assessment but I don't think it's an image killer - just not the best EA (eye angle!) ;)

I like it but agree with Michael re the crop. Check out the rule of thirds tutorial in the learning forum http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ional-Examples

Thanks for the input, I'll play with the suggestions.
