I hope this is appropriate for this forum. I went on a pelagic boat trip out of Monterey CA this weekend where we were extremely lucky to see and photograph a Mega Rarity for N.A. a Great-winged Petrel, only the 3 N.A. sighting ever! The ID is 99.9% correct according to the experts but of course it will have to be confirmed by the Cal. Rare Bird Committee. Below is a link to more images and a great trip report by the boat leader, Roger Wolfe of Monterey Seabirds, a pelagic birding and whale watching tour company.

Way cool, Dan! That IS exciting. (I would have loved to see the Blue Whale that was on your observation list).

Good one Dan! Pelagics are so exciting because these birds are so mobile that almost anything is possible.
