The brown eye ring is a tell, I'm pretty sure it's a Olive Thrush or one of the 5 subspecies of this bird, whose image I found in my South Africa Sasol Bird Guide...did a little searching and found this Wikipedia thread:

There is also a Karoo Thrush but not as orange on the underbelly

Thanks Paul. I googled olive thrush and it does look like a perfect match. I wish I had a decent book on Ethiopian birds, but I didn't find one while I was there.
