1/25th?? Looks like quite a bright scene to come up with that SS? Looks pretty good to me Lance, one thing I would have done was to get the birds attention before depressing the shutter button. I often give a soft clicking noise just to get a bit of attention and eye contact if possible. Well done on an interesting shot;)

Hi Paul - was very very late in the afternoon - just after sunset, The BG is actually the sunset reflected in the water.
    EXIF says 1/25th.

Lance, I'm impressed that you HH @ 700mm & 1/25 & got a sharp image. I wish I could HH @ 700mm. I am also impressed by the lack of noise @ ISO 1600. I find the white RFG (bird's body) distracting. Was it possible to move to the left?

I am amazed! 1/25 sec? Looks plenty sharp. You might consider cropping off some of the shoulder on the rhs.

I really like the soft colors in this shot, and the boldness of the beak. These are beautiful birds. I wish there was a little more feather detail but perhaps that's not what you were aiming for.

Not sure what you could have done. Agree with Maureens post above. Short of maybe using a little bit of flash to crisp up the feather detail.

Think the only thing other thing you could try would be a full bird shot, ditch the extender and shoot wide open at F4.

    regards.
