PROJECT: BIRDS IN HABITAT--great blue heron with catfish
Shot in harsh light at my local "rails-to-trails" nature area where the heron feast on the catfish. Sparkling reflections are troublesome, I know, but this was the best I could do under the conditions. How'd I do? I can't seem to buy an overcast morning lately. c/c welcome

I like the comp and especially the catfish and gbh's tongue. The harsh backlighting is definitely a problem. There also is a strong blue cast the bird, which is in shadow. I applied a warming filter to the heron's body and that seemed to help somewhat.
Well caught pose with prey, Gary. Harsh angled backlight is a challenge. Not sure which colour version is more accurate - I'm guessing a blue heron should be blue but maybe they are grey.
Fairly gentle back light as here is anything but harsh in my book. The repost is an improvement. Lots of flash would have made it even better. I'd lose the bright leaf below the rump. EXP, SH, and COMP all good.

Thanks for the comments and the repost. The repost does look more accurate color-wise. Definitely agree fill flash would have been a big help here and that shiny plant needs to go. Thanks again.
