Default Canada Geese - Drawing effect

    Hi All,
I took this the other day and am going to have it framed and hung over my fireplace. I loved the subtle colors and relaxing feel. Any suggestions on improving before I have it printed will be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Janet

I used Lightroom and Photoshop for the effects. Just messed around with the saturation and levels sliders. Then over sharpened. Also adjusted the lightness and darkness in specific areas.

Janet, I like the look you are going for here. The water and the lighter tones are nice. If it were mine I might burn a bit more of the grasses and the white breasts of the geese. I'm kind of in a rut as I usually like less room on the bottom than the top but I can see why you chose this way to present them.:)Maybe others will chime in.

Janet, I like the composition as it is. I agree with Denise about burning the grasses and the white on the geese. I like the subtle colors:)

I would definitely try a version darker all around. High key is nice but some parts of this are bordering on no-key :)

    Greetings All,

I cropped the scene a little differently and darkened the selected areas. Then darkened overall scene a little. Any better ? Worse?

It's better, but, for printing, you have serious problems at least if the JPEG represents the optimized file accurately.

I checked the histogram. The stuff in the red rectangle shows over-exposed pixels. I expected them to be in the foreground water but they are scattered on the hillside. Open your optimized file, hold down the ALT key, and put your cursor on the highlight slider in Levels. If a whole bunch of speckles show up, then you need to start over by going back to your RAW file, recovering the highlights, and re-convertined (a bit darker)>

There is tons of great info on saving the WHITEs and the Highlights in the ER Forum....
