Default Greetings from Staten Island, NY

    Hi,
My name is Joe McCarthy. I am a grandfather of one, Luke, awaiting a second grandchild in February 2011. As a retired steamfitter, I appreciate my daily walks in Clove Lakes Park.
Thankyou to all the fine people who are responsible for the excellent content on this site.

    Happy discovery,
    Joe McCarthy

Hey Joe, Welcome. Where on Staten Island? I used to live across the street from South Shore golf course. What do you like to photograph?

Near Manor Rd. & Victory Blvd., Artie. I've played at South Shore many times. Back in February 2010, I was walking in Clove Lakes with my Nikon D50 & 55-200mm. I was fortunate enough to get a shot of a Great blue heron in flight. Not a great shot (too much BG clutter), but I was hooked.
I started researching better glass and decided on Canon's 400mm f5.6 (Nikon missed the boat on this one) . Also bought the eos 7d with the help of Dr. Roger Clark's site. BTW, still have my Nikon D50, along with a Powershot SD800 IS.

Hey Joe, My best bird on a golf course story is a totally tame young red-tail at Silver Lake... Say hi to SI for me.

Great to meet you, Joe !

I totally agree with you regarding the Canon 400 5.6. It is a fabulous lens, and I enjoyed it immensely when I had one.
