    American White Pelican
    Bolivar Flats - Texas Coast

After a little storm clean-up volunteer work at one of the sanctuaries on High Island, Ria and I decided to head to Bolivar to see who was hanging out. The tide was so far out the peeps were almost in international waters. :) Oh well, I was able to stalk a large group of white pelicans and take a few photos. They're always funny to watch at Bolivar. You get 50 yards closer, they move 50 yards further. Anyway, here's one of the images from the very last rays of sun as it dropped into the horizon. I used methods from APTATS to tweak the image. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

    Canon 40D; 500mm + 1.4x TC; Wimberley on Gitzo
ISO 200 (should have moved to 320 or 400 for shutter speed)

Beautiful light on this guy. I also like the shootin' angle. No nits.

Spectacular light, Wayne, the Pelican seems to glow in it :)

Well composed, a head turn would have made it even better.

I was dying to crop this from the bottom (from just above the refelction of the dark primaries of the far wing) and from the back but as sometimes happens when I attempted to open the j-peg in Photoshop it came up in the ACR conversion window... Strange. IAC, I love the image but feel that the crop would strengthen it considerably.

I'll give that a shot in the morning and repost. Thanks for the input.

Better yet, here it is. Now, I do see how it strengthens the image somewhat. But, I actually like the original with the reflection. The light was so sweet that evening, I feel the reflection provides the mood for the magical glow at that moment. Honestly, on this one, I can go either way, while leaning toward the reflection.

    Thanks for the input. :);)

This is beautiful Wayne, love the lighting and the setting. I would crop a little from behind:)
