Stuart I love mine! I have it attached to one of my D300"s all the time. I think it is one of Nikon's under stated jewels.

    Stuart:

It is a very good lens, inexpensive, many folks think it is as good as the 70-200 in comparable ranges. You lose the speed and build quality, but it sure is a lot lighter to carry around.

I use it in my boat when out looning for flight shots.

    Cheers

I have a 70-200/2.8 VR1 and i have been thinking of replacing it with the 70-300 for my forthcoming Yellowstone wintertrip. As it is lighter and has a bit more reach. Any opinions about replacing the 70-200 with the 70-300?

    Thanks

I love mine for work in good light. In fact, I shot a 3-day sheep herding trial with it this weekend. Moose Peterson loves his too.

I have both and use the 70-300mm for walking around and the 70-200 with TCs for more serious work.

Yesterday, I found one of our local eagles sitting in the morning sun.

Here is the shot - jpeg straight from the camera

and here is a really tight crop

I am more than pleased with this lens.
