    Monte,

Sharp right where it needs to be sharp onthe head and eye. Even enough DOF to get good sharpness on the front legs. I find in AK with my bear images that the beach rocks, water and bright grasses get too bright when working to get good color tone and details in the darker colored bear. In this case the rocks are very bright and lacking detail - that even though they are not clipped, the detail does not show up.

I would suggest making a selection of the highlights (see second link below) using the channels palette and CRTL-Click on the RGB channel. Back at layers palette on a BG copy, create a mask of the selection. Then change blending mode to multiply (first link below). Adjust opacity to suit. This will help to reduce the highlights while protecting the shadows from getting too dark. I did a repost to demonstrate the affect. Opacity at 100% to make it obvious - just change opacity to suit. If the bear or the grass is too dark, just paint black on the mask to cover the affect.

awesome shot! very sharp where it needs to be. I like what Robert has done but I prefer the contrast on the bear in the original post so I would try and combine them :)

Fun shot and I agree with Morkel on the contrast.
