I have been away from here for a while so thought I'd share my recent distraction with you.

Being relatively new to BC, Canada I never would have dreamed of encountering over 65 Black bears this summer. I strap my 70-200 and 7D to my back when I go on my daily evening bike rides and have encountered up to 15 bears in one night.

Time for a tele, 200mm is a little risky for these critters.

P.S excuse the watermark, I had posted some of these on my J M Douglas Photography facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/J-M-Douglas-Photography/150570641630962.

I love the pose. The bear sign really adds to the scene.:)

Thanks Denise, I had waited all summer to get a photo of a bear beside this sign. This guy wasnt happy though, I guess a bigger bear had chased him away because thats about the dirtiest look an anmial has ever given me.

Wow! Now that is close for a 70-200! I'd be looking into a 500mm if I was you!

This was a decent crop, I am not into pushing my luck with these guys as much as they do seem quite calm around people. Ended up within about 4 meters of a mother and 3 cubs one day by accident of course .. riding along minding my own business and then look up at the tree to my left and AHHH!! Peddle faster. It's been a great experience spending so much time in the company of the local bear community and doesnt look like they're going to sleep anytime soon with salmon season underway.
