Sea otters spend almost all their time in the water, but occasionally they come out onto land. I saw this one on a recent, heavily overcast morning at Moss Landing, California.

Nice eye contact Bill. If possible I would lie on the sand here to minimize the foreground and background in the photo. Also the contrast appears a bit flat, pulling up the midtone brightness in curves will do the trick. Using fill flash may have helped in the field.
